We have to find the courage to stand in the long arc and do our part in the generational project of building the world our descendants are asking us for. We have to put energy and attention toward a world in which we are free or they will never be free. Long views the conversation. A conversation across generations. After self. Is my communications framework invalidating or reinforcing the status quo of power and privilege? Whose future are we allowed to imagine? Which people are allowed to imagine futures? The metrics that we use don’t just measure our performance, they modify our performance. It might be worthwhile bringing your own yardstick to the game because it changes the way you play it. Can we build organizational forms that feel more like a solar system than a pyramid? What if the sun was our mission? What if we allowed the things to die and new things to take their place? And we designed that really well. This is what I want to do to be in a common space of resistance where we can dream and have a dream where another world is possible now. We diminish the act of self reflection precisely because it is a thing that gives us the power to change. It cannot change, it cannot transform people’s lives. When you’re on a journey with someone else and when you love healthy you find yourself. You uncover who you are in the process. That’s loving healthy. That’s loving in a beautiful way. That’s redemption. The redemption is uncovering who you are and then there you are, bare, beautiful, unbearing. That part that you had locked away and sealed away, the hope, it can come back. That generation has its struggle. Each one passes with torch to the other one to deepen transformation. What if we actually put the work in to instruct a society that was so vastly different that our communities would look unrecognizable than what they look like today? A place where we wouldn’t even have to consider the brutality of police and jails because we invested so much care, so much support in people before they committed harm that we wouldn’t even need militarized cops and cages because our communities would just be safe. Each of you is a tiny drop but there are millions of hearts and behind us stands the great invincible ocean. One thing for sure is that we need to have endurance, we need to have love and we need to have this longevity vision that we are all working on today. Because the long view means your vision and it’s up to us to make it ours. Baby, we got to get down with building the Tokyo because we believe that the person sitting next to us actually deserves it. Freedom is collective, freedom is a practice and freedom is here for us right now. Let’s come together for freedom’s revival.
